Childish Gambino – We Ain’t Them
Just a few minutes ago, Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino posted some very personal and serious tweets talking about his life and certain stereotypes that follow him because of his race, wealth, etc. Following that rant, Gambino gave us this new ish that will surely be on his upcoming mixtape. This song is very good, not because of his usual witty punchlines or a nice hook like in All The Shine, but because of the how real and emotional it is. Looking forward to the mixtape…

C Dot Castro – Boomerang
Now that the download link has dropped, it’s a good time to check out “Boomerang”, the first single off C Dot Castro’s next mixtape. Castro spits over two Big Pun instrumentals, “Boomerang,” and “It’s So Hard,” and brings his lyricism. I don’t think anyone would disagree that Castro is most known for his relationship with Logic (the fact that Castro was the only feature on Undeniable should have tipped you off), but he is showing that he can unquestionably hold is own. Of course Logic is in the video though…I don’t know whether to applaud Castro for using their relationship to try and jumpstart his career, or question why he isn’t more interested in making a name for himself on his own. Regardless, check it out.

Sophisticated- An Invisible Vision [Official Mixtape]
A long awaited drop of Sophisticated’s new mixtape An Invisible Vision brings this young artist into what hopefully will become the global spectrum of hip-hop. From start to finish this original AirMax Artist brings it and brings it hard. With some crazy beats from the likes of Sleepy Z, Zel Duhh Love, Braxton Parr and more, along with some dope, gut punching lyrics; this tape is far and away his best work to date. His song Midnight in Paris was the lead single which dropped earlier this winter, and I still listen to that song fairly often. That song was just a taste of how good the rest of the project really is. There isn’t a single song that I felt the need to skip through. In fact many of the songs made me listen to them more than once before moving onto the next. The DMV is one of the biggest hotbeds for rap talent and that makes it even harder to separate yourself from the pack and stand out. This is the kind of tape that can do that for an artist. We would like to say how proud we really are of the hard work and dedication it took from Sophisticated to make this tape and we hope it takes him places he could never imagine. This is in the must download category for sure, and even features fellow AirMax Artist Leon Marin. My favorite songs on the project are Maniac, The Melody, Open Your Eyes and Civil Rights Renaissance and they are great examples of how talented Sophisticated really is. Artist to Watch: Expo
Expo is an up and coming artist from the Boston area who’s dark sound and deep lyrics immediately drew me to him. He has opended for big names like Asher Roth and Kid Ink and has plans to have even more shows in the near future.
